GMS R&D, the R&D Centre of Gonvarri Metal Structures, is participating in the MAGAYA project, whose objective is the revaluation of apple waste (“magaya”) from the production of natural Asturian cider, by transforming it into a biopolymer that can be used in a new additive manufacturing process. In this way, it is hoped to obtain a biodegradable material that can be used for 3D printing of parts that can replace the current non-structural plastic parts in the future, being one of the R&D activities oriented towards sustainability and reduction of the carbon footprint.
MAGAYA is a collaborative project led by the advanced manufacturing cluster MetaIndustry4 and funded by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, through the call for Innovative Business Clusters 2022b, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
